Creating a seasonal arrangement in a vintage tureen

I cannot resist a bargain. Particularly when it's a container for a flower arrangement. This slightly cracked tureen cost £3.50 from a charity shop, which brings double joy, knowing that I not only got a lovely vase, but I also helped a good cause.

In addition the September purchase, with a rust and blue design was ideal for an autumnal arrangement.

The flowers used include Lime green Nicotiana, Bronze Sunflowers and Zinnias. In spite of their thorny nature, that makes them difficult to work with I also used blackthorn twigs with blue sloes attached and a late bunch of blackberries to mirror the blue on the tureen. The arrangement was completed with some ivy flowers, deep maroon prunus leaves and some bronze coloured forsythia leaves.

As I refuse to use the dreaded polluting florists' foam (it doesn't bio-degrade) chicken wire (bought at the same charity shop) was placed over the top of the tureen and hooked over the edges.

A rare occasion indeed to create an arrangement for my own pleasure!
